Okay, so it’s no secret that I blog way too little. Once a month is not enough, and I don’t even feel that I have something important to write about, which only makes it worse. I keep thinking about my goals for this year, and I don’t see myself completing many, if any of them this year. Covid totally threw me off my usual route, but I also blame myself a lot, since I’ve had a lot of time to get back on track, but… I found another track?
As shown in my last post, I’ve started doing digital collages, and I really enjoy it a lot. I’ve also started doing more patterns again though, which I also enjoy creating. Of course, both these things take up a lot of my time at the PC, and I still want to complete my dailies and weeklies in FFXIV, so I’ve got both hands full whenever I’m home alone. This takes away the time I’d usually spend on other things like watching new anime, write reviews and blog posts, and to be honest, I don’t really feel like doing the latter anymore, or at least not once every 2 weeks which was my usual goal. But since this is a blog, the first thing you see when you enter is a blog post, which will often be weeks old already. And on top of that; no one reads my uninteresting posts about my brainfarts. And I get that, haha.
So I’ve decided to change my site, and I’ll start working on it when I’m done with my current collage and pattern projects. My plan is to make this more of a shop and article site rather than just a blog, so my brainfarts will not be the first thing that pops into a visitor’s face when they enter, but instead it will be a static site showing the main things my site has to offer, which will be a revamped version of my current shop (POD products), anime reviews, articles and of course still the blog part. I will not delete anything, so don’t worry of you haven’t downloaded some of my brushes or still want to read some of my old stuff, because it will all still be here, but restructured.
This means that I will maybe even post more brainfarts, since they are tucked away and thus just a small personal part of the site. This would mean shorter but more diverse blog posts. It might not look like it, but my posts often require a lot of time and energy to write and prepare, even when it’s just one long brainfart.
I follow my statistics almost daily, and I know very well which blog posts are being read the most, so I’d like to write more of what people actually want to see, and that’s one of the things I’d like to invest more time in after the changes. This means that I’ll stick to the anime reviews and my plan of writing more tutorials and how to’s, which I will make sure get more spotlight on the site, as well as better lists compared to the current ones, which have gotten rather long and unmanageable.
The shop portion is probably where I will spend the most time updating though, as I’d really like to showcase more and better products than what I have on that single site right now. How exactly I want to do this is still being planned, as I cannot decide whether I want to make a page for each product, or just link them directly to Redbubble and Society6, kind of like they are right now. I believe that fewer clicks back and forth is more optimal, but more and better information is important too. Maybe I’ll try going for both, but then again; it means more work. Haha, let’s see what looks and works the best in the end.
I’m putting a lot of effort into my POD designs, and I think I’m getting better at advertising them too, so I’d like for them to become a bigger part of my site, since this site is still my heart and soul, even when I don’t post a blog post every other week right now. As a part of my advertising, I will also create a Facebook page, which I can’t believe I’m actually doing, since I loathe FB. I won’t install their app though, and only run their site, so my engagement with that company will be very minimal. It’s a good way to stay in touch with people though, and I plan on using the platform for better interactions than Instagram and Twitter will allow me. I like Instagram, but it’s become a lot less social over the years, and I find Twitter to be so noisy and messy, but a good way to post links directly in a tweet.
TL;DR: I will reorganize the site’s current content. The shop will become more prevalent. The blog portion will become less prevalent. Important blog posts will become highlighted more. Brainfart blog posts might become shorter and more diverse in content. I’ll create a Facebook page to better advertise and interact.
That’s it for now. I expect to start working on the first things sometime next week, and I don’t think I’ll write another blog post until everything is done. If you want news from me, you’re more than welcome to follow me on Instagram and/or Twitter, where I currently show my new designs every time I’m done uploading them to Redbubble and Society6. And even with limited time due to vacation right now, I’m getting some stuff done 🙂
