So much for me posting more often, eh? I simply cannot seem to get it done… It’s not like I’ve been lazy the past month, not at all. I think it’s more the fact that these kinds of posts are more for my own amusement than others, which is fine, but then again, why should I post more of them? Yeah, exactly! Well, anyway, here’s a quick update on what I’ve been doing 🙂
First off, I set my goals for October, so while others have been doing Inktober (Drawtober, or whatever it’s called now with the plagiarism case), I’ve been writing on my book! I spent a lot of time reviewing and editing the chapters that were already done, and then I sat down and wrote throughout October. Or, well, that was my plan. I wanted to write 1000 words a day, but forgot that I wouldn’t have time during weekends and vacation. Yet, I still managed roughly 500 words per day, and I’m quite content with that. So 3 more chapters are now done, and I’m happy to announce that I’m at least over half done with the main story. Pushing myself that much caused a burnout halfway through October though, so I’m taking a break from writing again. Hopefully it won’t be a 1 year break again though…
While being on the topic of my book, I’ve also been working on the portraits again. I’ve not been drawing some new ones, which was one of my goals for this year, but it’s been nice to at least do something with them again.
Me taking a break from something just means that I’m working on something else though. I made some Christmas patterns for Spoonflower, Redbubble and Society6, and I also made a lot of colorful gingham patterns. However, I waited for far too long with the sample swatches from Spoonflower, because I hoped that they’d make a Christmas contest I could enter, but they never did. And then it took 2 weeks to get the swatches because of Covid, so… Yeah, I might be too late for the Christmas sale there. I’m currently working on a binder for all my swatches, so that I can take them with me to the fair, which has of course been canceled for this year, but I’m hoping for the best in 2021. Just like everyone else.
I also started making greeting cards for the fair, which is something I’ve wanted to make for many years. It was the idea of making cards that got me into crafting about 8 years ago or something, but quite frankly, I sucked at it, and I still do, so I bought some premade cards that I just have to decorate. It’s a lot of fun, so I’ve been buying some more paper punches, patterned paper and markers for this project. I also want to make bookmarks again, but I simply have so many left from the previous fairs, that it’s kind of a waste of time, though they sell pretty well.
And in case you haven’t noticed it yet; it’s Christmas in just 1 month, and we hate being late when it comes to Christmas shopping, so we’re buying gifts and planning dinner these days. On top of that, a lot of personal stuff has been happening as well, but screw that. You can’t plan life, am I right?
I am planning my next post though, which will be about my binder, because I want to share the process and work I’m putting into it, and maybe it will inspire someone to try their own version of a sample binder.
