Happy New Year! I at least hope it’s gonna be a happier one than the last. I know I’ve been really lazy here lately, and I actually don’t have any good excuse for it. Granted, the whole pandemic thing has changed some things, but it’s not like my life has been dramatically changed. It’s just been… really draining, especially since it’s been affecting the other ones in my household. Also, December was awful this time! We don’t only have Christmas and New Year’s to think about, but also birthdays and our anniversary, and while those events are usually planned around 1 or 2 days, they’ve been stretched over more days due to limited visits, which was extremely tough. To top it all off, I got that time of the month, so I was drained of energy before the days even started. Good times, really.
Well anyway, I still want to have a look at last year’s goals, and of course also plan some things for this year. I’m aware that I did a poor job at my resolutions, so I’m not too happy about going through them, but it’s kind of a tradition for me on this blog, so let’s just jump into it!
2020 New Year’s Resolutions:
Write at least 3 chapters of my book (3/3): I actually managed to do that during my writing marathon in October, and it feels good! I also edited all existing chapters, which took forever, but now the story so far is rid of typos, weirdly written sentences and dialog, as well as a few “plot holes”… things that just didn’t add up, you know.
Learn crochet: Nope. Once again, a whole year has passed without me learning anything. I won’t give up on this goal, but I will pause it until my mind is more calm and ready to learn a new crafting skill.
Watch 10 anime series or movies and review them (6/10): Okay, so I didn’t get to write 10 reviews, but to my defense, I watched some second seasons this year, and I don’t review those… Except for Arakawa Under the Bridge, because that one deserved it so bad! So yeah, I didn’t get to complete this goal, but I’ve not really watched any less anime than usual, so there’s at least that.
Make a complete list of all our DVD’s: Nope, and to be honest; I’m giving up on this one. It’s not like we buy a whole lot of DVD’s, but the longer it takes for us to make this list, the longer it gets. Maybe one day, but not now, and I won’t keep the goal… This isn’t a 1 woman goal, and I don’t see me getting help from the boys anytime soon.
Get to 15 recipes in our family cookbook (9/15): Yeaaaah, also no. This is also a goal that I have with my boyfriend, since he’s in charge of taking the photos, but since he’s usually not in the mood when the food is ready, nothing’s happening. We’ve tried some new recipes that we like though, and I hope we’ll one day give it a go, and just add all of them!
“Fix” Society6, Redbubble and Fine Art America uploads: Yes, well, I did it, but it wasn’t that much work to be honest, so I feel good about having gotten it done, but not proud of it because it just took a few hours to go through all my products and make them look good.
Finish the 5 portraits of my OC’s (5/5): Yes! I finished them! They’re all scanned and done with Inkscape, and I think I did pretty well. However, I’m STILL opening the files now and then to fix minor mistakes, but it’s just me being nitpicky.
Draw 5 more portraits of my OC’s (1/5): I really wanted to do this, but due to Covid and other stuff, the creative Thursdays I have every week with a friend were canceled quite often, and that’s usually the time where I work on drawings, crafts and the like. I won’t keep this goal, but I’ll still draw a portrait now and then, when I feel like it.
Write at least 1 spin-off to my story (0/1): I’m actually surprised at myself for not having gotten this done, since there’s a story I’ve wanted to write for about a year now. I’ll get it done though, so I’ll just keep this goal as a reminder.
Get better at creating vector logos: Well, yes. Kind of? I did a lot of sketches and made some experimental logos in Inkscape, but to be honest… it wasn’t enough. I got a bit better, yeah, but I’m nowhere near my goal. However, I might have to up my game before long, since a family member is in need of a new logo, and I agreed to have a look at it. He’s quite busy right now though, so let’s see when it will be.
Write at least 6 DIY tutorials on this blog (1/6): I was actually very excited for this one, but of course it didn’t work out. My plan was to document my process when creating jewelry and other crafts, but since the craft fair was canceled 3 out of 4 times last year, and our creative Thursdays as well, I didn’t get to do anything that was worth documenting. I’m still gonna write about my pattern folder, but I don’t know if it counts as a tutorial. I’ll keep this goal, but I won’t keep the number of tutorials. Instead, I will just see what happens, and how many tutorials I might or might not get done this year.
That’s it… Not very uplifting to look at, but it’s better to have goals and try reaching them, than to have none at all. Admittedly, I’m also playing a lot more FFXIV than what is good for me, but during the time I’m playing, I often create patterns, collages and other designs, and I’m really happy with my Society6 and Redbubble uploads for 2020. I think it’s worth noting that I also do stuff that wasn’t planned, and I’d actually like to plan some goals around this part of my hobby, so let’s have a look at my goals for 2021! Please note that I won’t categorize them as resolutions and sub-goals anymore though, since they are all goals to me, and I feel that calling them “resolutions” forces an urge to complete them, and makes me feel bad about not having done so, and there’s no need for that.
Write at least 3 chapters of my book (0/3): I want to keep this goal and repeat my success. Whether it is during a special writing month again, or just overall throughout the year, doesn’t matter to me.
Write at least 1 spin-off to my story (0/1): As mentioned; I’ll keep this one. Hopefully it will get done this year.
Watch 5 anime series or movies and review them (0/5): Lowering the number will give me the opportunity to watch second seasons and still get my goal done, without having to watch more than I can find the time for.
Add more recipes to our family cookbook (9 + 0): I still want this very much, but getting rid of a set number might relieve the pressure we feel when looking at this one. We’re currently at 9 recipes, and should any be added, I will change the + 0 to a 1… and hopefully more!
Create more trendy patterns and designs for Society6 and Redbubble: I’m not a trend hunter, and I don’t think I will ever be, but I’ve looked at the trends for patterns and colors for Spring/Summer 2021, and some of them are right up my alley, so I’d like to focus more on those instead of just creating whatever I feel like all the time. This will hopefully get me out of my comfort zone, and I’ll most definitely learn more about colors.
Create fitted designs for Society6 and Redbubble where relevant: This is something I’ve been thinking a lot about lately, and I actually already made a design that fits into their more complex templates for various bags. It just looks good when a design changes according to where on the product it’s placed.
Post more consistently on my Redbubble Instagram account: As of the writing of this post, my last IG activity was on the 30th of October, so I didn’t even get to promote my Christmas designs, although I prepared them quite early. I really gotta get better at this, and plan on using our creative Thursdays to post at least 1 new design a week. I should be able to do that, and maybe it will motivate my friend to do the same, since she’s been very lazy on IG as well cough
Write DIY tutorials on this blog (+ 0): I hope this year will be better when it comes to being creative outside the PC, but I might also include tutorials and guides for Inkscape related stuff. Let’s see where this goes!
Create a screenshot dump gallery for FFXIV: Bear with me, but this here old hag has become quite fond of /gpose since the new PC arrived. I’m not using any extensions for my screenshots, just good old in-game /gpose, but I like some of them a lot and want a place to “dump” them, haha.
I think that’s it. For now at least. A lot of them can’t just be completed, but will hopefully have a + number growing throughout the year. I’m also quite happy with having fewer goals than usual, because it’s been quite overwhelming with all my plans. I’m quite confident with what I’ve planned for this year, and I already feel motivated and want to start on some of them! But it’s getting close to 2am, so I’ll just stop for now 🙂
The list can be found, and will be updated on The Site & I.
